All regions have wet and windy weather during the next few days but there will be drier and brighter interludes too. This weekend colder air filters southwards and there is a risk of rain turning to snow in some central areas as an Atlantic disturbance moves in. Wednesday starts with patchy rain in the south eastern corner and heavy showers in the far north west. Through the day there will be a lot of cloud in southern and eastern England but it becomes mainly dry. In other regions sunny spells develop but showers bubble up in the north west. During the afternoon they become heavier and over the Scottish hills snow is likely.
Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in Scotland to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight heavy outbreaks of rain spread northeastwards. In northern areas they turn to snow over high ground and significant accumulations are possible. Drier conditions return to the south late on but it becomes very windy.

Tomorrow the wet weather in central and northern areas gradually clears away eastwards. Further snow falls over high ground and possibly down to lower levels at times in the north. Brighter conditions return to the south and in the afternoon they extend over much of the country.
By the evening cloud and outbreaks of rain return to the south and west. The north has quite a cold day but temperatures in the south stay close to the February average.

During Friday wet and windy weather pushes southeastwards with a mix of sunshine and showers following. Gales are possible in much of the country and in exposed parts of the north west there could be severe gales. It remains quite mild.
The unsettled weather continues this weekend but colder air filters southwards. The north has sunny spells and wintry showers with an increasing risk of snow. A small area of low pressure may push eastwards across the southern half of the UK and bring a risk of more persistent outbreaks of rain or snow. There is uncertainty but the snow risk currently looks greatest over high ground in central regions.
Next week starts cold with scattered wintry showers. A change is expected to quickly take place as high pressure builds across the UK and into the continent. It should lead to a good deal of dry weather.
