Cold and wintry feel to the weather

[Updated 07:05 19/11/2018]

Snow scene

The next few days will be cold as an easterly flow sets in. Showers become widespread and possibly turn wintry at low levels with snow over the hills. The longer term picture is quite uncertain but generally changeable and rather cold conditions are expected in much of the country....READ IN FULL

Monday starts mainly dry across the UK. This morning sunny spells develop in the north and west but it will be cloudier in the south and east. Showers push into eastern England and through the second half of the day they move westwards, although many places probably miss them.

Temperatures this afternoon range from 6C (43F) to 9C (48F) and a keen easterly wind adds to the chill. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 3

Tonight showers continue and at times they may turn wintry. It will be cold but cloud cover prevents frost from becoming widespread.

Tomorrow there will be a lot of cloud and the showers become heavier. Over high ground some of them fall as snow and at low levels a wintry mix is possible. The driest and brightest conditions will be in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. All regions have a cold day and a brisk easterly wind adds to the chill.

Cold but uncertain outlook

On Wednesday the heaviest showers affect northern areas and they continue to bring a wintry mix. The south and east should be drier and perhaps brighter. It remains cold generally, although in the south west temperatures could be a little higher than in recent days.

Through Thursday and Friday showers continue to pepper central and northern areas. The south probably has a good deal of dry weather initially but there is a risk of outbreaks of rain spreading into the south west. In southern counties it could be a little milder than in recent days.

In the longer term there is a lot of uncertainty. Computer models show a range of outcomes for the weekend and beyond. On balance cold conditions look likely to continue in the north and there is a risk of snow. The south may be milder at times.
