Mixed but quite warm in the south

[Updated 07:30 04/10/2018]

Murky weather

Wet weather affects parts of the north today and tomorrow but the south stays mainly dry. On Saturday outbreaks of rain spread across much of the country and they are followed by colder conditions from the northwest. Next week it warms up again, especially in the south and east....READ IN FULL

Thursday starts murky across the south and in the north there is some patchy drizzle. Through the day southern counties remain dry and sunny spells develop. Central and northern areas have a lot of cloud and in the west there will be further spells of light rain. Later this morning and during the afternoon more persistent rain spreads southeastwards across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Temperatures range from 10C (50F) in the far north west to 21C (70F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 2

Tonight the band of rain pushes down into northern England and and northern Wales but it becomes fragmented. Areas to the north of it have clear spells and a chilly night with a local frost. To the south there will be a good deal of cloud but it stays dry.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain continue in northern England and Wales. They perk up for a time and possibly edge southeastwards into central England. The band of rain marks the boundary between air masses, so to the south it will be quite warm but areas to the north have a chilly day.

Mixed weekend

During Saturday outbreaks of heavy rain affect much of England and Wales. It will also be quite windy. In the north colder and brighter conditions develop and they gradually push southeastwards. However, the cloud and rain lingers in the south until the nighttime.

An area of high pressure building in from the west brings a dry and bright Sunday to England and Wales. In Scotland and Northern Ireland the day starts bright and cold, but cloud and ran return from the west in the morning. It will be quite cool.

Next week the high pressure cell transfers to the east of the UK. That allows disturbances from the Atlantic to feed rain into the north and west. The south and east should have plenty of dry weather and temperatures are set to rise as warm air is pumped up from the southwest.
