Typical British summer fare

[Updated 07:20 13/08/2018]

Fair weather

The rest of the week will be mixed and after the long hot spell it is very much a case of back to typical British summer weather. There will be dry and warm days, particularly in the south, but all regions can expect rain at times....READ IN FULL

Monday begins wet in parts of the north and east but elsewhere it is mostly dry. During the rest of the day heavy showery rain continues to affect northern and eastern areas, and scattered showers are likely in the west too. Sunny spells develop in the southern half of the UK but the north remains cloudy for much of the time.

Maximum temperatures range from 15C (59F) in the northern half of Scotland to 22C (72F) in brighter parts of the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view

The month ahead - August

Winter 2018/19 weather

Tonight the showers fade away and clear spells develop. Later on cloud and outbreaks of rain spread into western Scotland and Northern Ireland..

Tomorrow showery rain push eastwards across the northern half of the UK. In the west some heavy bursts are expected but to the east of high ground rain will probably be patchy. Southern and central counties have a dry day with sunny spells. In the south temperatures reach a warm 26C (78F).

The south remains warm and sunny on Wednesday, and if anything temperatures could be a degree or two higher. In the north a band of rain erratically pushes southeastwards. A mix of sunny spells follows it into Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Second half of the week

On Thursday outbreaks of rain spread southeastwards and at times they could be heavy. Cooler and showery conditions follow into most areas by the end of the day but the rain could be slow to clear away from the south east.

The changeable weather continues on Friday and through the weekend. All regions could have showers or longer periods at times but there will also be quite a lot of dry and bright weather. The best of the dry periods and the highest temperatures are expected to be in the south.
