Hot for many but change on the way

The heatwave continues in much of the UK this weekend but a change is on the way as ex-hurricane Chris disrupts the pattern. Next week all areas probably have showery rain but it remains warm in the south east for much of the period....READ IN FULL

Saturday starts fine in most of the UK but there are patchy outbreaks of rain in the north west. The rest of the day brings sunny periods to England and Wales but northern areas have more cloud and there will be rain in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. There is also a risk of scattered thundery showers in south eastern England this afternoon.

Temperatures range from 18C (64F) in the far north west to 29C (84F) in the south east. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight outbreaks of rain become heavier and more persistent in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Elsewhere it will be dry with clear periods. 

Tomorrow fine weather continues across England, Wales and eastern Scotland. It will be hot and humid with temperatures topping out at close to 32C (90F) in the south east. Northern Ireland and western Scotland have outbreaks of rain and they may extend into north western England at times.

More changeable next week

Monday probably remains hot and sunny in the south east. In the north west there will be outbreaks of rain and through the day they steadily push southeastwards but fragment. Clearer and fresher conditions follow into Scotland and Northern Ireland.  

During Tuesday and Wednesday fresher weather is expected. Showers develop, mostly in the north and west where they could be heavy. Southern and central regions should be mostly dry with spells of warm sunshine. 

Through the second half of the week the weather remains changeable. A mix of heavy showery rain and sunny periods is expected. The driest and warmest conditions generally are expected to be in the south east.
