Tonight it remains dry but cloud in Scotland pushes southwards into northern England. The south has a warm and muggy night but the north will be cooler.

Tomorrow cloud spreads southwards, despite that there will be sunny spells and in the south it remains very warm or hot. The north will be cooler than recently.

Temperatures ease mid week

By Tuesday cooler air will have filtered southwards across all regions. It should stay mostly dry but it could be cloudier at times. Maximum temperatures range from about 20C (68F) in the north to 25C (77F) in brighter parts of the south.

The dry spells continues on Wednesday for most but a few scattered showers are possible in the north and west. Temperatures possibly edge up a little on Tuesday's values so it remains warm but not hot.

Heat returns for the weekend

During the second half of the week a belt of high pressure is expected to stretch from the Azores northeastwards across the UK and into Scandinavia. Temperatures probably climb and by Friday they could be reaching 30C (86F) once more in the south. There is a risk of thundery showers, particularly in the west and north.

Beyond the weekend things are more uncertain. Computer models suggest a transition to somewhat more changeable weather through the second half of July. However, there could be further and very warm periods and this summer could soon be challenging more records.
