Tuesday starts dry across the country. The rest of the day brings long periods of sunshine but in the north and west there will be some cloud at times. Temperatures this afternoon top out at close to 32C (90F) so yesterday's 30.1C (86F) recorded in St James's Park, London should be beaten. The warmth covers most of the UK but eastern coastal counties remain cooler. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Summer forecast overview
Tonight it stays dry and clear. The west has a muggy night but in the eastern half of the UK temperatures dip down to about 10C (52F) by the morning.
Tomorrow the heatwave continues. Top temperatures are expected to be similar to today's but again it will be cooler near the east coast.

During the second half of the week high pressure remains the dominant feature of the weather but subtle changes take place. Low pressure is expected to develop over France and Spain and that leads to an increasing risk of thundery showers in the southern half of the UK. It currently looks as though the greatest chance of thunderstorms this weekend will be in the south west and Wales.
Next week temperatures should gradually fall as a more changeable pattern begins to shape up. Nonetheless there could still be a lot of warm and dry weather, especially in the south and east.
