Summer forecast overview

Tonight outbreaks of rain affect northern England and parts of Wales. To the south a dry and humid night is in prospect but to the north it will be cooler and fresher.

Tomorrow southern and central counties have spells of warm sunshine but scattered showers could break out. In the north west of the UK heavy outbreaks of rain spread eastwards in the afternoon, but eastern Scotland and north eastern England probably remain dry.

Mid week and beyond

Wednesday starts sunny and very warm in the south. In the north there will be areas of wet weather and some heavy bursts of rain could be mixed in. Late in the day a band of rain pushes southwards into central counties.

Patchy rain should clear from the south on Thursday to leave it dry and cooler. High pressure then becomes centred to the west of the UK. That suggests a good deal of dry weather for the rest of the week. Initially temperatures will be close to average but later on it could warm up again in the south.

Warm next week

Warm weather looks likely next week. However, forecast details are uncertain and some computer models are suggesting the UK will become sandwiched between low pressure to the south and high pressure to the north.
