Settled start but showery later this week

[Updated 07:25 05/06/2018]

Sunny weather

The next few days will bring more fine weather and temperatures rise again. However the risk of thunderstorms begins to return and by the weekend there is a chance of very showery conditions spreading northwards.

Tuesday starts mostly dry but in some central and eastern area cloudier skies are producing a few spots of rain. Through the day sunny spells develop but quite a lot of cloud is likely to remain, especially in the south. In Northern Ireland scattered showers are possible this afternoon and they could be heavy.

Temperatures range from 16C (64F) in the east to 21C (70F) in the west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight clear spells develop in central and western regions. In the east thicker cloud could bring some drizzle.

Tomorrow an odd shower is possible but the vast majority of the UK has a dry day. Widespread sunny periods are expected and temperatures will be slightly up on today's values, although it remains cool near the east coast.

Towards the weekend

Thursday and Friday bring plenty of fine and warm weather but eastern coastal counties remain cloudier. It will be warming up and temperatures in the south could reach  26C (78F). The risk of thundery showers also returns to southern and central regions.

On Saturday heavy showery outbreaks of rain may spread northwards. At this stage wet weather looks most likely in the western half of the UK, however there is also a chance of thundery showers in the south eastern corner. Despite the mixed picture there should be spells of warm sunshine too.

Latest guidance is suggesting that Sunday could be quite cool with heavy showers in much of the UK. Forecast confidence is low due to differences in computer model simulations. The overnight Global Forecast System (GFS) run shows a deepening area of low pressure bringing very wet conditions, however other models have it as a slacker and less well defined feature. The latter scenario gives a better chance of dry and sunny periods.

Next week mixed weather is expected with showers or longer spells of rain possible in all regions. There are indications of high pressure becoming centred in the Atlantic and if that happens the driest and brightest weather would be in the west of the UK.
