[Updated 07:20 19/04/2018]

Sunny weather

The fine and very warm spell continues during the next couple of days. During the weekend a transition back to a cooler and more changeable pattern begins as pressure falls and disturbances move in from the Atlantic.

Thursday is off to a fine start across most of the UK and there will be a lot of warm sunshine during the rest of the day. The only area to miss out on the summery weather today is the north west where thicker cloud could bring some drizzle or showery rain.

Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far and today's temperatures should be even higher. In the London area 27C (81F) could be reached and in much of England and Wales 21C (70F) should to be reached or exceeded this afternoon. The north and west remain cooler. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight patchy rain affect the far north west. The rest of the UK has a dry and mild night.

Tomorrow most of the country has another very warm and sunny day but isolated hefty showers may break out in the south. The far north west remains cooler and cloudier with a risk of showery rain.

Change develops this weekend

Saturday brings more sunshine but heavy showers probably move up from the south into western England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Elsewhere it stays fine and warm but temperatures are likely to be slightly lower than recently.

By Sunday cooler and showery conditions become more widespread. Some heavy and thundery downpours are possible but there should still be a good deal of warm sunshine in East Anglia and the south east.

Cooler and changeable next week

Cooler and changeable weather spreads eastwards across all of the UK early next week. Temperatures are expected to take a tumble and the risk of snow may return to the Scottish mountains.

The GFS chart below for next Wednesday shows a cool Atlantic flow covering much of northwestern Europe. The warm air that is currently over the UK has been pushed back into southern Europe.
