Southern areas stay very mild in the next few days but it will be cooler in the north. There are signs of much colder weather next week.
Tuesday starts very wet start across much of the north and west. In the south it is dry and mild. This morning the rain in northern areas steadily clears eastwards. Further outbreaks of rain reach Wales and the south of Northern Ireland and later on they spread into central England. Southern England remains mainly dry.
Temperatures range from 8C (48F) in Scotland to a very mild 17C (63F) in the south east. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight outbreaks of rain affect central and northern areas but by the morning they become lighter and patchier. The south stays dry and very mild.
Tomorrow some rain is likely in the far north but elsewhere it should be dry. Sunny spells develop and it will be very mild for the late October in southern and central areas.
Thursday will be mostly dry and very mild day in the south with temperatures approaching 20C (68F). It remains cooler in the north.
During the rest of the week high pressure becomes centred close to or just to the west of the UK. Quite a lot of dry weather is expected although some rain is possible. The very mild air in the south will gradually be squeezed out.
