Rain pushing eastwards

[Updated 08:30 10/09/2017]

Overcast weather

Cool, wet and at windy spells affect the UK for much of the week ahead. The chance of drier periods increases later on.

Sunday begins bright in the east but it is cloudy and wet in much of the north and west. Through the day wet and windy weather steadily spreads southeastwards, reaching south eastern England this afternoon. Brighter but showery conditions follow into the north and west with the rain clearing the south east this evening.

Maximum temperatures will be close to 11C (52F) in the north and 18C (64F) in the south east. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight heavy showers continue in the north and west. Central and eastern England become mostly dry and clear.

Tomorrow heavy and thundery showers become widespread but sunny intervals develop too. It will be windy, especially in southern and western coastal counties.

On Tuesday scattered showers continue. During the second half of the day wet weather pushes in from the west. There is a risk of it becoming very windy in southern and central regions but forecast details are still uncertain.

During the second half of the week the weather probably remains quite changeable but there are signs of high pressure beginning to build in from the west.
