Brightening up from the north

[Updated 06:35 27/01/2022]

Fine winter's day. Posted by hilett1978

Patchy rain clears southwards this morning to leave a lot of dry and bright weather across. Tomorrow and Saturday look mixed with rain mostly in the north and west. During Sunday an area of low pressure is expected to push across the northern half of the UK. It brings the potential for a wet and very windy period.

Thursday starts with patchy outbreaks of rain stretching from the south west through southern Wales and into central England. There are wintry showers in Scotland, but elsewhere it is dry.

Through the morning and early afternoon the damp conditions in central areas clear southwards. All regions then have sunny spells, but a few wintry showers continue to affect Scotland. Quite windy.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight it stays mostly dry and clear periods allow temperatures to dip. However, cloud builds across northern and western areas so by the morning frost is most likely in the south and east.

14 day trend forecast

Issued 25th January 2022

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain extend across the north and west of the UK and in the western half of Scotland they could be heavy at times. Much of central and eastern England remains dry, but after a bright start it turns cloudier. Milder in the west. Windy, especially in the north.

Very windy for a time

Through Saturday a band of wet weather becomes increasingly patchy as it clears southwards. Rain amounts in much of southern and central Britain are likely to be small. Brighter skies follow into the north and wintry showers push into Scotland. Mild in the south, rather colder in the north. It will be windy and gales are likely in the north for a time.

Forecast details for Sunday are uncertain. An area of low pressure is expected to push eastwards and track across the north of the UK. It brings heavy outbreaks of rain to the north and snow over the Scottish mountains. Gales or severe gales are also a risk.

Monday may start with showery rain in parts of central and eastern England. It should quickly clear away to leave all regions with sunny spells. Showers develop in the north and west, in Scotland they turn wintry. Windy.
