Milder and more mixed from mid week

Winter's afternoon. Posted by hilett1978

High pressure has a lot of influence on the UK's weather this week but there will be changes. After a rather cold start it turns milder during Wednesday as winds strengthen and outbreaks of rain push across the north. Beyond that it looks quite windy and mild, particularly in the north where there could also be rain at times.

Monday starts dry in much of the UK, but there are outbreaks of rain in northern and western Scotland. Locally in southern and central Britain there has been a touch of frost.

Through the day the risk of rain remains in the far north, but elsewhere it should be dry. There will be a lot of cloud; however, some bright spells develop, the best of them probably in central and north eastern counties.

Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in the south to 8C (46F) in the north. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow it's a similar story. Patchy outbreaks of rain continue to be a risk in the north west and particularly in western and northern Scotland. Other areas have a dry and cold day with an early frost in parts of England and Wales.

A few changes possible

During Wednesday a more active Atlantic disturbance is expected to bring wet and windy conditions to the north. Southern and central regions should stay mostly dry.

Through Thursday a patchy band of rain clears southeastwards. Brighter skies follow and temperatures will be close to the late January average.

Friday and the weekend should be mainly dry in much of the UK, although in Scotland there is a greater risk of rain. More windy than recently, particularly in the north.
