Cooler with frost risk tonight

Cloud and patchy rain clears southwards to leave dry and bright conditions across the UK today. It will be cooler than recently and tonight ground frost may develop quite widely in northern and eastern counties. Through the coming days a transition to more unsettled weather begins to take place.

Friday starts with patchy rain in southern Britain. Elsewhere it is dry and in the north there has been a ground frost in places.

This morning the damp conditions in the south steadily clear to leave all of the UK dry. Sunny periods develop, but it will feel cooler than recently.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in the north to 15C (59F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight clear periods allow temperatures to drop quickly. In the north and east ground frosts develops and locally temperatures dip below 0C (32F). Later in the night cloud and light rain push into the west.

Tomorrow starts dry and cold in the north and east. In the west there will be patchy outbreaks of rain and they steadily spread eastwards . However, in much of southern, central and eastern England it stays mostly dry. Chilly in the north.

Unsettled outlook

During Sunday wet and windy weather in central and northern regions clears eastwards. Brighter skies follow, but the risk of showers continues in the west. Southern and eastern England remain mostly dry. Temperatures generally close to the seasonal average.

Monday is expected to start with some light rain, but many places will probably be dry. However, wet and windy conditions spread eastwards through the day.

The latest computer model guidance for the middle of next week is suggesting unsettled weather. The wettest and windiest periods are forecast to be in the north and west. The south and east could be drier and warmer at times.
