Much of the UK will have showers or longer outbreaks of rain at times this weekend. Next week a change is likely to take place as high pressure builds. There is uncertainty about its positioning but a period of drier and more settled weather is expected to develop. It could also become quite cold....READ IN FULL

Saturday starts wet in much of northern and eastern Britain. The rain steadily moves eastwards and drier conditions follow. Some bright spells develop but there will be scattered showers, particularly in the north west. During the afternoon and early evening more persistent outbreaks of rain push across Northern Ireland and into western Britain.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in the north to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the rain becomes focused on Wales and northern England. Areas to the north have a chilly night with a few showers. To the southeast it remains mainly dry and mild.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain slowly push southeastwards across England and Wales. They clear from the south eastern corner during the late afternoon or early evening. Brighter and showery conditions follow.

Monday is looking dry and bright in much of the country. The exception is the north west where stronger winds and cloudier conditions bring patchy outbreaks of rain.
During Tuesday outbreaks of rain in northern areas become light and patchy as they slowly push southeastwards. It will be mild generally.
Through the rest of the week high pressure probably becomes centred close to the UK. It should lead to a good deal of quiet and rather cold weather. Nighttime frosts possibly become widespread and later on there is a chance of wintry showers in southern and eastern counties.
