The next few days bring spells of wet and windy weather across the UK. Further flooding is likely with the highest rainfall totals expected in northern and western areas. It will often be mild in the south but colder at times in the north. Next week the unsettled period continues but it could turn colder....READ IN FULL

Thursday starts with heavy rain in the north and west. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. The wet weather quickly spreads southeastwards this morning with showery conditions following on behind it. In the north showers turn wintry down to low levels. The rain should have cleared away from the south eastern corner by the end of the afternoon. It will be windy, particularly in wet areas and the north west.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in the north to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wintry showers continue for a time in the north west. Later in the night more persistent outbreaks of rain and hill snow develop. Other regions remain dry. Windy with gales in parts of the north and west.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain affect Northern Ireland, western Scotland, north western England and Wales. Areas to the south and east should be drier. It will be very windy with gales or severe gales in much of the north and west.

The weekend is looking mixed. Windy and showery conditions are expected on Saturday. During Sunday outbreaks of rain probably push eastwards across southern and central regions. The north may remain brighter but further showers are likely. Mild in the south but colder in the north.
At this stage next week is also looking unsettled. At times it could turn cold enough for sleet or snow, particularly in the north.
