January was a very mild month. Provisionally the Central England Temperature (CET) finished more than 2.5C above the 30 year average. The weather during the first half of February is expected to be changeable. Saturday starts with rain in parts of the north. In the south it is mainly dry. Through the day showery rain spreads a little farther south and west. It becomes more intermittent but over the Scottish mountains there is an increasing risk of snow. A few showers could push into Wales and western England. Southern and central counties have a dry and bright day.
It will be windy. Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in Scotland to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight showers fade away in the north and under clear skies a frost develops. In the south it starts dry but outbreaks of heavy rain push up from the southwest. By the end of the night they affect much of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Tomorrow the rain steadily pushes across the northern half of the UK. Over high ground it could turn to sleet or snow at times. Southern and central regions have a dry but overcast and very mild day.

Monday looks set to bring a mix of sunshine and showers to the northern half of the UK. Most of the showers will be in the north west and over high ground they will be wintry. Southern and central areas have a good deal of dry and bright weather. Near to the south coast there is a risk of showery spells of rain.
Tuesday will be chilly and bright in much of the country. There will be showers in the north and west which are likely to be wintry at times.
Through Wednesday and Thursday high pressure builds in from the west. It brings dry and bright conditions for a time and an increased risk of nighttime frosts.
Towards the end of the week it turns changeable and milder. Spells of rain will be most frequent in the north west.
