Saturday starts murky. Through the day much of the country has cloudy and drizzly conditions. In the north west more persistent spells of rain are likely and it will be windy. A few bright spells develop with the best of them in the east.

Temperatures don't vary much and range from 8C (46F) to 10C (50F). See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2019/20 forecast

Tomorrow the band of rain and strong winds pushes southeastwards. Brighter conditions follow from the west but it probably remains wet in Kent and Essex until the evening. In Scotland showers develop and it will be cold enough for snow over high ground.

More unsettled outlook

Monday is looking showery and in the north it could be cold enough for sleet or snow. A more organised band of showers may push southeastwards and lead to more persistent spells of rain for a time.

The chilly and showery theme continues on Tuesday. In the north showers bring sleet and snow down to low levels and over high ground in central and southern regions a wintry mix is possible. This could be the first day of the winter that some places see a few flakes of snow falling.

Through the rest of the week a southwesterly flow is expected to become established as high pressure builds to the south of the UK. Therefore it should become mild again with the most unsettled conditions in the north west.
