Unsettled outlook but dry today

Unsettled weather continues into the middle part of January. All regions can expect wet and windy spells and flooding may start to become an issue again. In the south temperatures should often be above the average but in the north it could be cold enough for snow at times....READ IN FULL

Wednesday stats with showers in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Across England and Wales it is dry. Through the day showers become focused on the north west of the UK and over high ground they could be wintry. In the south cloud builds and outbreaks of rain push into the south west this afternoon. It will be windy in the north.

Temperatures will be down on yesterday's values ranging from 6C (42F) in the north to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet and windy weather spreads northeastwards across much of the country, although it probably doesn't reach Scotland. Over high ground in northern England the rain could turn to sleet or snow. Clearer skies follow into Wales and the south west.

Tomorrow the rain and hill snow moves into southern and central Scotland. Elsewhere it becomes drier but during the afternoon further outbreaks of rain spread across southern England. The north has a chilly day but it becomes mild in the south.

Mixed and often mild outlook

Friday should be dry in much of the country but in the north west rain returns in the afternoon. Temperatures won't be far form the seasonal average.

The weekend is looking mixed. During Saturday a band of rain moves down from the north west. Southern and eastern England probably remain dry until the late afternoon or evening.

The rain clears away during Saturday night. Sunday should be dry and bright in the south and east. Elsewhere there will be showers and in the north they could turn wintry even at low levels. Cold in the north.  

Next week it stays unsettled in all regions. Temperatures fluctuate and in the north it could be cold enough for snow at times, especially over high ground.
