Friday starts with outbreaks of rain in the north west. Elsewhere it is cloudy but mainly dry. Through the day the rain in the north west extend eastwards across much of Scotland and into parts of northern England. It tends to become lighter and patchier, although in the north west some heavy outbreaks persist. Southern and central regions remain cloudy and at times in the west there could be some light rain or drizzle.

Temperatures range from 8C (41F) in the east to 12C (54F) in the west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Arpege forecast chart 2

Meteo France Arpege, rain, 15:00 GMT Sat 28th December

Settled in the south

During Sunday wet weather continues in western Scotland and it could spread into Northern Ireland and north western England. Other areas have a dry day and some bright spells could develop.

Monday brings more of the same. Outbreaks of rain continue to be a risk in the north west of the UK but elsewhere it should be dry.

Through the rest of the week little changes. Atlantic disturbances bring rain to the north west. At times the wet conditions could push down across all regions but high pressure should keep southern counties dry for much of the time. It is likely to be mild in the north and west but in the south and east temperatures will be closer to the seasonal average.
