Unsettled then colder

Tuesday starts wet in the north but elsewhere it looks mostly dry. During the course of the day another band of rain spreads northeastwards and heavy showers follow into the south west. It remains mild.

Showers or longer spells of rain continue to be widespread on Wednesday. It could become windy, particularly in the south and there is a risk of gales in coastal counties.

The unsettled weather continues during Thursday. In the south it stays mild but it could be colder in Scotland.

Through the rest of the week colder conditions probably push southwards. Nighttime frosts return and the risk of snow may increase in central and northern regions.
