Much of the UK has showery spells of rain during the next couple of days, although there will be sunny spells too. Next week it could be all change again with high pressure returning....READ IN FULL

Thursday starts with wet weather in northern Scotland and showery rain in England and Wales. This morning it turns drier in the far north. Some heavy bursts of rain continue in the southern half of the UK and they gradually spread northwards. During the afternoon it should become mostly dry in southern and central areas. Heavy showers continue in the north.

Temperatures range from around 12C (54F) to 16C (61F). The warmest conditions are expected in south England and eastern Scotland. Check the rain radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow a band of rain steadily moves eastwards across. Brighter skies follow into the west, however by the late afternoon further outbreaks of rain push in from the Atlantic. It will be quite windy and cool, although in the south eastern corner temperatures may be reasonable.

High impact weather possible

During Friday night and Saturday morning an area of low pressure is forecast to track across the north. It has the potential to bring high impact weather. On its southern flank gales could be widespread and in much of the UK there will be heavy rain. Difficult driving conditions are likely and with many trees now in leaf some could be felled. Through the afternoon the rain should become mainly confined to the north.

Sunday probably starts mainly dry. During the morning a band of rain pushes eastwards and weakens. At the moment computer models suggest it will remain mainly dry in the east.

Forecast confidence for next week is low. There are increasing signs of high pressure coming back into play quite quickly. If that happens settled and possibly warmer conditions could return quickly.
