Tuesday starts dry across the UK with variable amounts of cloud. Through the rest of the day most places remain dry with sunny spells. The exceptions will be Wales and western England where scattered thundery showers break out in the afternoon. It will also be cloudier and cooler near the east coast.

Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the north east to 24C (75F) in sunnier parts of England. Check the rain radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow an area of rain pushes northwards, probably reaching Scotland by the evening. The heaviest outbreaks are likely to be in the west and they could lead to difficult driving conditions. Showers follow into the south west and west where temperatures will be lower than recently. Eastern England may hang on to quite a lot of dry and warm weather through the day.

Changeable and cooler outlook

During Thursday heavy spells of rain move northwards. Some brighter intervals are likely too. In sunnier parts of eastern England and northern Scotland it could feel quite warm.

Through the rest of the week it remains unsettled. Heavy rain is expected at times and it could become windy with the possibility of gales in places. By the weekend it may be cold enough for showers to fall as sleet or snow over high ground in the north.

The changeable spell is forecast to continue next week. Temperatures fluctuate around the seasonal average.
