Tuesday starts with a band of rain stretching from eastern Scotland down to south western England. The rain pushes eastwards this morning and clears away during the afternoon. Brighter and showery conditions follow on and it turns colder. The showers bring a mix of rain, hail, snow and thunder! Snow is most likely over northern hills.

Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in the north to 12C (54F) in East Anglia and the south eastern corner. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Easterly next week

It remains cold on Thursday. A band of showery rain may spread eastwards across southern and central regions. Showers continue in the north and it remains cold enough for snow over high ground.

On Friday showers are likely to be mainly focused on Northern Ireland, Wales and south western England. In other areas it should be drier and temperatures will be higher than in recent days.

During the weekend high pressure becomes centred to the north of the UK and an easterly flow develops. The air mass over the near continent won't be cold, so away from the east coast it is expected to be milder on Saturday. Scattered showers are most likely in the west.

During Sunday and through the early part of next week the UK remains under an easterly flow. There should be a fair amount of dry weather. Temperatures during the days reach the teens Celsius in the south and west but it remains raw in the east.
