Unsettled still but change on the way

[Updated  07:15 16/03/2019]

Magnolia

Wet and windy weather is the name of the game today. Tomorrow colder conditions sink southwards and showers will be widespread and heavy. Early next week a change takes place as high pressure builds from the southwest. It brings increasingly settled and warmer conditions....READ IN FULL

Saturday start with heavy rain in the north and over high ground in Scotland there is snow. Across the south it is very windy and mainly overcast with patchy rain. Through the day persistent outbreaks of rain push down from the northwest but they don't reach the south eastern corner until this evening. In Scotland rain and hill snow continues and over the mountains there is the potential for accumulations to exceed 20cm.

It stays very windy in England and Wales. Inland areas have gusts of around 40mph and in exposed western locations they will be close to 60mph.  Temperatures range from 3C (37F) in Scotland to 12C (54F) in much of England and Wales. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow will be cold and blustery. All regions have a mix of sunny spells and showers. In the north the showers fall as snow to low levels at times and they could be wintry over higher ground in the south for a time too. Later in the day it becomes drier and frost returns overnight.

High pressure builds next week

Monday should be dry in much of the UK although there are likely to be a few showers still. Later on cloud builds in the north west.

Through Tuesday and Wednesday high pressure becomes the dominant feature of the weather over the southern half of the UK. It leads to more settled and warmer conditions but weak weather fronts still bring the threat of cloud and patchy rain at times. In the north there is a greater risk of wet and windy spells .

During the second half of the week high pressure remains close so it should often be dry. By the weekend temperatures probably trend downwards as colder upper level air filters southwards.
