This afternoon there will be bright spells in the north and east. Wales, Northern Ireland and the south west of England remain cloudier. Gales early in the day gradually ease.

Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in Scotland to 14C (57F) in the south east. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Change next week

On Saturday wet and windy conditions spread southwards but south eastern England could stay dry through the day. In Northern Ireland and Scotland it turns brighter but showers develop and they turn increasingly wintry.

Sunday is looking cold and windy. Sunny spells and heavy showers are likely in all regions. Many of the showers turn wintry and fall as snow in the north and over higher ground further south.

Early next week a change takes place as high pressure builds from the southwest. It leads to more settled and warmer weather in the southern half of the UK. In the north Atlantic disturbances bring the likelihood of further wet and windy spells.
