Showers moving eastwards today

[Updated 08:30 16/12/2018]

Shower cloud

Storm Deirdre has pulled away northeastwards to leave much quieter weather in its place. Nonetheless the outlook remains an unsettled one with all regions having further wet and windy periods. It will often be quite mild, particularly in the south....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts with rain in the far north but that clears away quite quickly. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. This morning much of the UK has bright spells, but in Wales and western England thicker cloud builds. Heavy showers develop in the west and this afternoon they push northeastwards to affect much of England. Northern Ireland and Scotland have scattered showers too.

Temperatures will be close to the seasonal average, ranging from 5C (41F) in the north to 10C (50F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow starts dry and bright. During the day cloudy conditions spread eastwards and in the west patchy outbreaks of rain develop. In the south and west it will be quite mild but in the north and west temperatures remain close to the mid December average.

Mixed for the rest of the week

During Tuesday another band of heavy rain pushes eastwards across all regions. It is accompanied by strong winds with the likelihood of gales in the north and west.

The unsettled theme continues through the rest of the week so all regions can expect further showers or longer spells of rain. In the south temperatures fluctuate between average and above average, but in the north it may be cold enough at times for sleet and snow over high ground.
