Umbrella

The weekend will be chilly and showery in central and northern regions but parts of the south have more persistent outbreaks of rain today. Next week a major change takes place as disturbances move in from the Atlantic bringing mild and wild weather....READ IN FULL

Saturday is off to a wet start in southern coastal counties and there are showers in the north east. Through the day outbreaks of rain continue in southern England but the heaviest ones are expected to stay south of London. The rest of the country has drier conditions with bright spells most likely in the west. There will be scattered showers, particularly in the north east.

Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in the north to 10C (50F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 3

Tonight the rain in the south becomes patchier and eases off, although it may linger in the south eastern corner. Central and northern areas have further showers and over high ground they could fall as snow. It will be quite cold with a frost most likely in the north and west.

Tomorrow it's a similar picture. Scattered showers continue, mostly in the east. Sunny spells may form more widely than they have in recent days, although central and eastern England probably remain mostly overcast. Temperatures will be a little down on today's values.

Major change next week

Monday sees more of the same as pressure remains high to the north and low to the south. That leaves the UK under a chilly and showery easterly flow.

By Tuesday things begin to change. Areas of low pressure in the Atlantic will be approaching and frontal systems associated with them push eastwards across the UK. That leads to a very wet and windy period of weather and there may be some travel disruption. By Wednesday much milder air from the southwest will be bathing the country and temperatures could climb as high as 14C (57F).

Through the second half of the week things remain mixed. All areas have wet and windy periods but the south probably becomes drier for a time as a ridge of high pressure builds. After a mild start temperatures dip back down towards the seasonal average.
