Changeable weather continues

[Updated 07:10 14/08/2018]

Fair weather

The weather during the rest of the week will be mixed. The driest and warmest spells are expected to be in the south east with rain more likely in the north and west. Next week there may be a tendency for more settled conditions to extend northwards as high pressure to the south of the UK exerts more influence....READ IN FULL

Tuesday starts with some light rain in western Scotland and Northern Ireland but elsewhere it is dry. Through the day patchy outbreaks of rain spread eastwards across the northern half of the UK, although in the east there should be a good deal of dry weather. Southern and central regions remain dry with bright spells and variable amounts of cloud.

Maximum temperatures range from 15C (59F) in the far north west to 24C (75F) in brighter parts of the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view

The month ahead - August

Winter 2018/19 weather

Tonight showery rain continues to affect parts of the north and west. The south and east have a mostly dry night with clear spells.

Tomorrow southern areas stay dry and have warm spells of sunshine. In the north a band of rain slowly pushes southwards reaching northern England and possibly northern Wales during the second half of the day. To the north of it showery conditions return.

On Thursday the area of wet weather slowly pushes down into southern counties. The rain could be heavy at times and it may not clear from the south eastern corner until nighttime. Elsewhere there will be sunny spells and showers, with most of them in the north and west.

The longer term

The changeable theme continues on Friday and through the weekend as pressure remains high to the south and low to the north of the UK. The balance between the two will determine the forecast details but in general terms all regions could see showery rain but also dry and bright weather. The best of the dry periods are expected to be in the south where it becomes warm at times.

Next week high pressure may build more strongly from the southwest. That means more settled weather possibly extends progressively northwards.
