The next few days will be mostly dry and warm in the south but the north has more changeable weather. In the longer term a range of outcomes are possible, but some computer models show a "furnace heat" set-up next week as the UK sits between low pressure to the west and high pressure to the east....READ IN FULL
Wednesday starts dry in much of the UK but there are light showers in the north and west. Scattered showers continue in northern and western regions through the day and the odd one could be heavy. Southern and eastern counties have a dry day with sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud.
Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in the far north to 26C (78F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight the showers fade away to leave clear spells but in the north west cloud builds later on. Temperatures fall to about 8C (46F) in the far north and 15C (59F) in London.
Tomorrow bright spells develop but there could be an odd shower around. It will be warmer than today and in the south maximum temperatures won't be far off 30C (86F) during sunny periods. In the far north west thicker cloud brings outbreaks of rain.

On Friday wet weather spreads across much of the north and west with some heavy outbreaks of rain likely. Southern and eastern England have a mainly dry day with sunny periods, but scattered thundery showers are possible in the afternoon. It will be very warm in the south.
By Saturday a fragmenting weather front is expected to be straddled across southern and central areas. That brings the risk of cloudier skies and some showery rain but many places probably remain dry and warm. In the far north cloud and rain could push in from the west.
Sunday is looking dry and very warm in much of the country. Northern Ireland and western Scotland remain more changeable with showers or more persistent spells of rain.

Forecast details for next week are uncertain. There is a chance of the UK becoming sandwiched between low pressure to the west and high pressure to the east. If that happens plumes of air from southern Europe and North Africa could bring the hottest conditions of the summer so far. However, an alternative scenario is for the low pressure to push farther east, bringing cooler and showery conditions back. The third outcome is for high pressure to build over the UK keeping things dry and very warm.

Southern counties have a good deal of dry and warm weather, although there is a weak signal for the risk of rain to increase late in the month. In the north a more changeable outlook is favoured. View latest GEFS.
