Maximum temperatures range from 18C (64F) in the far north to a warm 26C (78F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight much of Scotland and Northern Ireland will be overcast and damp. Elsewhere a dry night with clear spells is in prospect.

Friday brings sunny periods. It will be warm in the north and hot in the south where temperatures could nudge 30C (86F) locally. Thundery showers bubble up in the afternoon, especially in western and northern regions, but many places miss them.

The weekend and beyond

On Saturday cloud and rain push into Northern Ireland and western Scotland. The rest of the country has a lot of dry, fine and very warm weather but thundery showers are a risk in southern and central regions.

Sunday will be dry, hot and sunny in southern and central regions. In the north the chance of showery outbreaks of rain increases as disturbances from the Atlantic push eastwards.

Still warm in the south next week

Next week more changeable weather is probable but the details are uncertain. The greatest chance of wet spells is in the north and west with the south and east perhaps being mainly dry. Temperatures stay above the average and in the south east it could be very warm and humid for much of the time.
