Summer forecast overview

Tonight showers persist in the north and west. Elsewhere it stays mostly dry and clear periods form.

Tomorrow brings a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers are expected to be most frequent and heavy in the north with much of the south missing them. Temperatures will be up on today's and in the south it will feel pleasantly warm.

Mixed weekend

The changeable theme continues this weekend. On Saturday an area of low pressure pushes eastwards across the UK bringing showery spells of rain and cool conditions. Winds strengthen again, especially in southern and central regions.

Return of the westerlies?

Next week the changeable pattern continues. All of the UK could see wet spells, however drier and warmer days are likely, especially in the south. At this time year the terms "European Monsoon" and "return of the westerlies" are used to describe a transition back to typical British summer weather.
