Summer forecast overview
Tonight the showers gradually peter out. In the southern half of the UK it remains quite muggy but northern areas will be fresher.
Tomorrow the showers return and become heavy at timees. Despite temperatures being lower than recently a pleasant 21C (70F) could still be reached in the south.
By Wednesday a ridge of high pressure topples southeastwards across the UK. That opens the gate to the Atlantic in the north, and outbreaks of rain push eastwards over Northern Ireland and Scotland. Southern and central regions have sunny spells and scattered showers early on, but later in the day skies cloud over.
On Thursday rain clears southeastwards. Blustery and showery conditions follow and in the northern half of the UK gales are possible. The north has a cool day but in the south temperatures won't be far off the mid June average.
Through the rest of the week changeable weather continues. Dry and bright spells are most likely in the south as high pressure tries to build from the southwest.

Next week the changeable pattern continues. All of the UK could see wet spells, however drier and warmer days are likely, especially in the south. At this time year the terms "European Monsoon" and "return of the westerlies" are used to describe a transition back to typical British summer weather.
