Summer forecast overview

GFS forecast chart

GFS, forecast cloud cover, 16:00 BST Wed 6th June

Tonight central and northern regions remain dry. In the south cloud thickens and by the end of the night showers are possible.

Tomorrow central and northern areas have a fine day with sunny periods and just one or two showers. In the the south there will be sunny spells but the risk of thundery downpours increases. Temperatures in the south push up towards a warm and humid 25C (77F).

On Friday spells of warm sunshine are likely. However, thunderstorms bubble up in the south and scattered showers affect the north.

Weekend weather

The weekend prospects look mixed. On Saturday heavy and thundery showers spread across southern and central counties. They will be hit and miss so some places probably miss them and have a fine day. The north has sunny periods and showers.

Further showery rain is expected on Sunday. Scotland and Northern Ireland have sunny periods but England and Wales probably have a lot of cloud.

Changeable next week?

Early next week showery conditions continue in southern and central regions. In the north it should be mostly dry and bright. Later on there are signs of high pressure building across the south. That would lead to more typical summer weather with the driest and brightest spells in the southern half of the UK. In the north the chance of wetter spells would increase as an Atlantic flow returned.
