A taste of spring in parts of the UK

[Updated 07:00 05/04/2018]

Spring blossom

Wet weather affects much of the north and west at times during the next couple of days but a ridge of high pressure should keep it dry in central and eastern Britain. The weekend looks mixed with rain in much of the country on Saturday.

Thursday starts mostly dry and in northern areas it is frosty. The rest of the day brings a good deal of dry and weather with just a few scattered showers. Sunny spells develop this morning but through the afternoon cloud builds in the west.

Maximum temperatures range from 4C (39F) in Scotland to 11C (52F) in southern England. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight outbreaks of rain spread across Northern Ireland and into Scotland where they are turn to snow over the hills. Elsewhere it remains dry.

Tomorrow wet weather affects the north and west. Central and eastern regions have a dry day and in sunny spells it will be quite warm.

Mixed weekend weather

On Saturday an area of heavy rain is expected to push northwards across central regions. The exact track it will take is still uncertain and parts of eastern England could remain dry and quite warm. During the afternoon dry conditions may return to southern and central areas.

By Sunday high pressure is expected to be building to the north of the UK. A mix of sunny spells and showers is likely in the north and there is a risk of rain in the south.

Look east next week

During the first half of next week an easterly flow becomes established over the UK. Unlike in late February and mid March the air over continental Europe is very mild but because the North Sea is cold so it won't be a Feast from the East. Therefore in eastern counties it could be quite raw with the brightest and warmest weather in the west.
