Storm Brian on the way?

[Updated 13:55 17/10/2017]

Autumn scene

Storm Ophelia's remnants pull away northeastwards today. The rest of the week brings unsettled weather and there is the potential for a stormy spell in the south this Saturday.

Tuesday begins wet and windy in the north with gusts of up to 70mph possible but elsewhere it is mostly dry. Through the day the rain in the north turns patchy and winds ease. Southern and central areas have some bright spells but this afternoon rain pushes into the south west.

Maximum temperatures range from 10C (50F) in Scotland to 17C (63F) in East Anglia. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain could become heavy at times in southern and central regions. The far north has a calmer and colder night.

Tomorrow intermittent spells of rain advance northwards. In the south west brighter skies return but for most there will be a lot of cloud.

The rest of the week stays very unsettled. On Thursday wet and windy weather in the west moves eastwards into central Britain. During the second half of Friday another deepening Atlantic low pressure system approaches from the south west. That has the potential to bring very heavy rain and strong winds to the southern half of the UK. It may end up being named Storm Brian.

Today's Buzz takes at Storm Brian. TWO's second winter 2017/18 discussion is available.
