The mild weather continues today and although there will be some showers many places remain dry. However, rain returns to the south west this afternoon and overnight it turns wet in much of the UK. Things remain mixed in the short term, but by Friday it is expected to turn a good deal colder as a plunge of Arctic air sweeps southwards. Tuesday starts with showers in parts of the north and west of the UK. In southern and eastern England it is dry.
Through the day scattered showers continue in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but the early heavy ones in western Scotland fade away. There will be bright spells, but cloud amounts increase this afternoon, with sunshine increasingly becoming restricted to Scotland. In the south west outbreaks of rain develop and become heavy.
Temperatures range from 10°C to 17°C, with the highest values in the east. You can check the weather radar for the most up to date view.

Tonight, outbreaks of rain move northwards across much of the UK. Amounts of rain in East Anglia and the south east are likely to be small. However, in much of the rest of the UK the rain will be heavy, although it probably remains dry in the northern half of Scotland.
Tomorrow outbreaks of rain ease as they pull away eastwards. Northern Scotland and southern counties of England may stay dry throughout the day. Very mild across the southern half of the UK.
Thursday is expected to be very mild and dry over much of England and Wales. However, in the northern half of the UK a band of rain steadily pushes southeastwards. Very windy in the north with gales or even severe gales in exposed locations.
A big change takes place on Friday. A band of rain clears southeastwards and much colder Arctic air follows. Showers are likely to develop quite widely and in the north they turn wintry over high ground. Blustery, particularly in the north.
Saturday is looking rather cold and showery. The showers are likely to have a wintry flavour in the north, with snow over high ground. Frost could be widespread early and late.
