Most of the UK will be dry today but it turns increasing cloudy. Tomorrow a band of rain becomes patchier as it clears southwards. However, the main weather dish of the weekend is reserved for Sunday as an area of low pressure deepens and probably tracks across the north. It brings the potential for a wet and very windy period.

Friday starts dry across the UK. Locally there has been a touch of frost.
Through the day wet weather affects northern and western Scotland. In the east there could be some patchy rain, but it shouldn't amount to much. Other parts of the UK have a dry day, but early brightness in central and eastern counties is replaced by cloudier skies. Windy strengthen and gales are possible in the far north.
Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in the east to 12C (54F) in the south west. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight outbreaks of rain become heavier and more persistent in the far north west. Later in the night they move southeastwards across Scotland and into Northern Ireland. In other parts of the north and west there could be some light spells of rain. Central and eastern counties have a dry night.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain fragment as they push southwards. By the evening they reach southern counties, but amounts will be small. Brighter skies follow and in Scotland wintry showers develop. Windy. Chilly in the north, mild in the south.
Forecast details for Sunday are still somewhat uncertain; however, an area of low pressure is expected to push eastwards and track across the north of the UK. It brings heavy outbreaks of rain to the north and snow over the Scottish mountains. Through the afternoon and evening the rain spreads into central counties. The south probably remains dry. Very windy in central and northern areas with gales or even severe gales in places.
Monday is looking chilly and scattered showers are likely, particularly in the north and west. In Scotland they could contain sleet and snow. Despite that, many places have a dry and bright day. Quite windy.
During Tuesday outbreaks of rain move southeastwards. Mild and potentially very windy.
