Hot in the south

The fine weather continues today in much of the UK, but outbreaks of rain will be pushing into the north west. The first half of the coming week is looking very warm or hot in southern and central areas, but by Wednesday the risk of thunderstorms increases. Things remain more mixed in the north.

Sunday starts dry across most of the UK. Through the day outbreaks of rain push into northern and western Scotland. By the evening they will be reaching parts of Northern Ireland too. England and Wales have a fine day with long sunny periods.

Temperatures range from 17C (63F) in the far north west to a very warm 28C (82F) in the Greater London area. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the area of rain pushes southeastwards into northern England, but it becomes patchy. Southern and central counties stay dry. In Scotland and Northern Ireland clear periods develop, although some showers push into the far north west.

Tomorrow the rain in northern England becomes increasingly light. Areas to its north have fresher conditions, with sunny spells and scattered showers. To the south it stays dry, bright and very warm or hot. Temperatures in the London region could hit 30C (86F).

Hot then more mixed

Tuesday is expected to be fine in much of the UK. It will be very warm in southern and central regions. During the second half of the day outbreaks of rain spread into the north west.

The heat builds in the southern half of the country on Wednesday and temperatures could reach 32C (90F) locally. As the day progresses there will be an increasing risk of thunderstorms in the south. The northern has more cloud and lower temperatures. In the north west there could be patchy spells of rain.

During the rest of the week changeable and cooler conditions spread southeastwards across all areas.
