Rain pushing in from the southwest

Much of the UK starts dry and bright today but cloud builds from the west. This afternoon outbreaks of rain push into the west and tonight they spread eastwards. Tomorrow and Wednesday are looking very wet in most of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Colder conditions in Scotland sweep southeastwards on Thursday.

Monday starts with showers in parts of the UK. This morning they increasingly become restricted to the north west. Through the afternoon outbreaks of rain push into Northern Ireland, Wales and south western England. Elsewhere it remains mainly dry but cloud builds from the west.

Tomorrow morning it turns drier in southern and central regions but during the afternoon further spells of wet weather are likely. In northern England and Northern Ireland heavy outbreaks of rain continue for much of the day and at times they could push into southern Scotland. To the north it remains dry and bright with just a few scattered wintry showers. Cold in the north, mild in the south. Windy in the southern half of the UK.

Wednesday brings further heavy rain to England and Wales. On their northern edge they increasingly turn to snow. Northern Ireland and Scotland have sunny spells, but scattered wintry showers are likely in the north west. Mild and windy in the southern half of the UK. Cold in the north.

During Thursday rain is expected to clear eastwards from southern and central regions. Colder and showery conditions then push southwards. In the north the showers could fall as sleet or snow down to low levels.

Friday is looking cold and showery. The showers are likely to fall as sleet or snow down to low levels in the north and perhaps over high ground further south.
