If you look at the run between about 192 and 228 hrs, that high over NW Europe just blows up out of nowhere. Very odd and it makes me very suspicious of the validity of it.

Insane GFS 6z run for France, multiple 40c + days . Orientation of the high means UK avoids the extremes.

Tomorrow's (Sat) chart review will appear sometime after midday as I have to go out early to organise an orienteering event. But keep the comments coming in the meantime.

Briefly, but better late than never ...

FAX - current HP forming ridge to Greenland but being dismantled by LP 994mb off W Scotland Wed 17th with fronts and troughs, though the far south may just escape these.

GFS O p 12z - runs that LP further north, through the Faeroes, so more of Britain in the Euro heat area to Tue 23rd. HP then strengthens to the west with very warm E-lies for England, and by Sun 28th these easterlies are mixing heat from C Europe with cool from Scandinavia over England (looks unstable to me)

ECM - the fine weather is less assured in the coming week as the LP to the north has more influence. But by Fri 19th Lp to the west again brings up warmth from the south

AIFS - London, maxima 20C this week with a little rain, warmer Thu & Fri, from Mon 22nd a steady climb to 33C Sat 27th before a sudden drop. Edinburgh, similar pattern but 15C and 25C respectively, and distinctly more rain in the coming week.

GEFS - Warm or very warm in the south Wed 17th - 24th, little ens agreement by the end of this period with the op run holding out for hot against the majority view of norm. Dry at first, chances of rain around 24th but, unusually, more persistent in east. In the north, only marginally above norm except for a day or two around 23rd. Rain on many days

Surely the extreame heat in France cannot stay put so have go somewhere, so that go north.

ECM 12z another scorcher , the HP eventually moves to the right position to allow mid 30s by the end of the run.

FAX - HP ridging to Greenland at first, rather weak with (showery?) troughs in the NE and later in the S, before LP moves closer from the Atlantic 993mb S of Iceland Wed 17th, with attendant fronts crossing Scotland, Wales and N England while S England just about holds on to High pressure.

GFS Op 0z - for the rest of the coming week Britain lies between LP to the northwest and HP to the SE, a southwesterly flow of air which looks warm in the S but cooler in the N. For the w/b Sun 21st pressure rises generally, and the HP cell wanders around, either over Scotland or the N Sea, bringing generally warm air from the E or SE, even hot for the w/e by Sat 27th. The sequence finishes Tue 30th with LP moving up from France into the SW.

ECM - charts available to T+240 - generally agrees with GFS but with a higher chance of a hot S-ly flow as early as Tue 23rd.

AIFS - London, maxima rising to 29C by Fri 19th, dropping back then rising again to a peak of 32C Fri 26th. Traces of rain in the first week, then dry. Edinburgh, same pattern of maxima but only to 19C and 26C respectively. Moderate rain persistent in the coming week, then dry

GEFS - In the S, mean temp rising to 8C above norm Fri 19th (less marked in SW), slowly falling back to norm at end of run Tue 30th - not second peak of heat, indeed op and control both below norm in the last few days (but a very wide spread of ens members after 19th). Small chances of a little rain from 19th onwards, mostly in E.  In N England and Scotland, mean only a little above norm (say 2C, even less in NW)  and basically flatlining. Significant amounts of rain for w/b Wed 17th esp in NW, and significant chances remain after that though better chance of dry weather (Rain forecast does not agree with op run in week 2)

Decent set of 0z for heat and Summer fans. Most output this morning either gets very close or would break the June record at some point in the next 2 weeks.

Indeed GFS and ECM are great but still AIFS is rubbish in comparison.  The standoff will have to end soon.

As for the up coming spell. AIFS is being pretty consistent, for the SE heat builds this week peaking on Friday with 30c ish . Then HP takes over and heat builds again peaking day 12 ish with mid 30s possible.

We'll see if it's accurate again , other models are similar so hopefully it will be.

longer range ECM only gives a glancing blow from the Euro heat dome, but the orientation of the block will keep changing with every run

Looks like a lucky dip from next weekend onwards. That said, the whiskers are representing the 25th and 75th percentiles, and most runs are going cooler.

The 24°C temperature gradient would be quite notable too.
