I really detest how potential weather events are now hyped up to the extreme.

The Manchester Evening News and Key 103 have been going on and on about tonight's "inevitable" storm all day.

It was never nailed on, and now everyone will be asking why it hasn't happened. If it doesn't, of course.

It was always just the "chance" of a storm. A shame the media doesn't portray it that way.

Interesting obs at Blackpool from XC Weather site:

16.20 = 14 mph SE winds

17.20 = 22mph W

17.50 = 12mph ESE with thunder and a scattering of Cumulonimbus at 400ft

Glad to see some areas in the NW have been getting a result!

A bit of light drizzle & that's been it here today. I feel it's a bit late now for any decent thundery activity around here now.

Cannot recall hearing 1 rumble of thunder all year.

Alan in Medlock Valley - Oldham's frost hollow. 103 metres above sea level.

Well like always, we get the boring rain which we get for 99% of the year anyway, but all the interesting stuff stays away. An excellent one for the south, but once again another thunder event down the pan for this area...

What I would give for an August 2004-type month to redeem the thunder drought...

Storm out in the North Sea at the moment is forecast to graze Northeast Scotland in a couple of hours. Might have my name on it...

There has been a fair amount of activity in parts of the NW today but often, the only way to be sure of catching a storm is to chase it! Being stuck in one location is very hit 'n' miss! I would have needed to travel some 30+miles or so today to catch any thunder! At least it did kick off for some areas,as the last few events, but just not widespread.

I've been watching that one (from a distance). It seems like there is some pretty intense precipitation with it.

Short and sweet. It got extremely dark beforehand (and misty), heavy rain, a few flashes of lightning and some loud thunder so it must have been close. Looks like there might be more showers lining up for later, possibly slightly further north this time.

6.8mm fell here in 7 minutes between 8:40 and 8:47am with a peak rate of 195.2mm/hr. Then just miserable drizzly muck the rest of the day with no sun.
