Rain just arrived. Still only one flash of lightning every couple of minutes though.

Met Office reporting Reading had 36mm in one hour up to 10pm earlier.

Steady rain here and maybe a flash every minute on average. (But never while I'm filming, of course!)

And round three begins. Not as intense as earlier, but the rain is heavy enough.

been storming here an hour now, several flashes every minute, still as I type! Pretty impressive stuff

That was impressive, even it did mean losing 2 hours' sleep - torrential rain and the most frequent lightning I've seen since the 80s, I counted 27 flashes in one minute at one stage! A real blast from the plast.

Thunder and lightning with heavy rain now in Peasedown St John. N.E. Somerset.

Nothing overnight for this part of the world despite the BBC graphics hinting at the possibility.

It seems to be edging to yet another bust for this area, concerning that cells around NW Wales currently are producing no sferics.

An average summer storm shortly after midnight - useful rain for the garden but most of the thunder and lightning a few miles off to the south east and behind clouds so went back to sleep

Not a sausage here, rain or rumble. Not hopeful for today now, looks like it will draw a blank, plenty of cloud though, and still quite breezy.

Well what a storm that was, almost constant for the best part of two hours (11pm to 1am). At its most intense t'was like being at a night club with the strobe light on - glad I'm not epileptic. On the plus side both kiddo's slept through it. Seems to have done something to my rain gauge as it still has it's raining indicator up - it's not raining now. Also only registered 5.2 mm and a rate of 1mm/hr which I'm sure is wrong!

Yesterday evening I popped down to a beach that looks over to the Isle of Portland. It was a beautiful sunny summers evening, warm with an easterly breeze but there was a developing high level storm over the Channel west of Portland with frequent thunder rumbles but little visible lightning. The earlier storms had bypassed us to the west and east and we only had a few drops of rain from those.

it must have rained during the night though because the ground is wet this morning but the light and sound shows reported elsewhere were absent here.

Well it's going to take a few coffees this morning to wake myself up after last night. Sussex up through easternmost parts of Surrey and West Kent seemed to get the most intense electrical activity. Radar and sferics showed wide band of activity all along the Sussex Coast up to the Weald at about 1am, before it sort of split with a cell heading up just to our east with plenty of lightning for us to watch, and another much further west over Hampshire. About two hours of intense lightning from about 12:30 to 02:30 with two nervous kids in bed with us, but with the curtains back watching the show. We seemed to dodge the very heaviest rain but a pretty steamy morning nonetheless.

With another hot day forecast, if a bit humid, this summer continues to do all the right things :)

Two good storms here.. Lost power and internet. Best storm for years, but not as impressive as some experienced due to the bigger one arriving as it was getting light so not getting the best show for the lightning!

Woken by scared 3 year old at 2am, and an hour of solid heavy rain and thunder and lightning (but nothing very loud or strobe like). Feeling quite Singaporean in Canary Wharf this morning (it looks Singaporean at the best of times).

And surprise, surprise, still bone dry here at Folkestone as the stormy stuff completely bypassed the town last night, I did get to see frequent distant lightning over the western horizon in the small hours but once again the Folkestone Rain Deflector was as effective as ever.

Was surprised to see that I recorded a peak rate of 180mm/h at 1.40am last night. I was so focused on the thunder and lightning I didn't even notice how heavy the rain was. Wasn't expecting a storm here so a very nice surprise.
