This reminds me a bit of the Jan 2010 snow event down here when we got a serious amount of snow (35-40cm locally).

A low formed off the Dorset coast - the area of precip heading up here and then pivoting on itself, putting me in the so-called 'sweet spot'.

Go 5 miles east or west and totals were significantly lower.

Funnily enough I just came here to post this: some rather convoluted flight patterns on FR24!

Plymouth over to Brighton looks potentially in the line of these storms. One hopes the Lizard is spared.

Looking at the radar I would have thought I'd be able to see some kind of light show out to the W/NW of London, but not even a flicker in the distance.

A lot of IC and CC lightning with elevated storms - and you have weak band of showers pushing through just now it would seem. Give it time. Hopefully!

You look like you have some light showers coming through in the Portsmouth area ahead of that Channel action. Give it 30 mins or so...

Round 2 here

 Thunder louder
Infact rain even heavier, and lightning more frequent

I'm about 26 miles northwest of London in the Chilterns. There's been a reasonable amount of lightning, but the gusty winds and torrential rain have been the main features.

Lightning flashes on the horizon every 8 to 10 seconds now, more electrical activity coming this way than round 1.
