Genoa the other week saw a storm dump 120mm in one hour with rain rates of a staggering 960mm/h.

You see no difference between it being completely covered and destroyed and swept away?

Your desperation to pretend climate change isn’t having any effect is leading you to make some truly daft comments.

Maybe have a think about the difference between water levels rising and waters raging and having the force to destroy a bridge.

It was swept away (on webcam) well before it was covered.

There was 20" of rain over 2 days, there was 14" in the recent event though it hasn't stopped yet.

The 1957 storm was far worse so the leaping to blame it on climate change is as usual agenda ridden tosh.

So you still don't accept the world is warming at all due to human activty?

Warming can be at least equally a good thing as a bad thing and precious little evidence that 0.5C or whatever it is currently being adjusted to had any input to this storm.

That works out at just over 3 inches every 5 minutes. Very close to a world record. The world record is 1 inch in 90 seconds. That was in either Louisiana or Alabama in summer in a sub tropical thunderstorm.    🙂 

Actually I think the article you posted is interesting. Things like this have happened before - indeed I've read that reported. I've also read that it's thought AGW might add 10% to rainfalls. The atmosphere can hold 10% more WV now - it's known physics.

I'm interested in the data. I've never thought there's a huge global conspiracy being carried about by those seen by most people as rather strange men (like you and me) and women who like watching the weather, reading thermometers and like recording how each day, month year pans out.

I KNOW the climate has warmed over my lifetime, by a noticeable amount. We live in the countryside, we can see the changes. YOU know that too.

Let’s start with the facts, shall we?  Warming is now at close to 1.5c above pre-industrial levels, not 0.5c.  That’s the upper limit agreed at the Paris meeting and it’s almost gone.

Of course you can’t say every exceptional weather event is the result of climate change and nobody does say that.  What they say is that the event has been made more likely and/or worse by climate change, and the basic science supports that.

Then, it’s important to look at the global pattern.  We’ve had an exceptional hurricane devastate parts of the US, we’ve had this extraordinary storm in Spain, and now we’ve had a massive super typhoon hitting Taiwan a month beyond the normal window for such storms.

I know how you operate, since you have played the same tune for at least twenty years.  I remember you citing stories of a sailing ship reaching the Arctic Circle in your attempts to deny that the the Arctic was warming.  Citing some historical record and trying to claim that it proves that the event is not abnormal is from the same tiresome playbook.

You have this odd notion that there’s some grand conspiracy at work, talking up an imaginary threat; you are simply misguided and wrong.

That's probably the absolute maximum rain rate and quite possibly (or probably) might have only lasted a few seconds - 16mm a minute. The mountain areas of Italy & France often see extreme rainfall totals from summer storm systems.

The dew points and heat that you can get in the Mediterranean region can rival those found in the southern states of America, and unlike Louisiana & Alabama some of the Mediterranean regions of Italy & Spain have very high mountainous terrain.

Well, it depends what 'local' means.

If you mean ‘local’ as opposed to ‘national’ then I’d agree.  But I think there’s space for something in between. 

The ‘Gota Fria’ was a term coined a long time ago, so mostly agenda driven media articles typically cancel this fact. Its origin dates back to 1886 so the conspiracy deniers have little to cling to this time.
