Interesting work by Reading Uni to try and recreate the exact synoptics of the "Ulysses" storm of 26-27 Feb 1903 here

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-65365106

They have found that by analysing and digitising more data from the area at that time that this storm was somewhat more intense than previously thought and (to me at least) looks very reminescent of the "Burns Day" storm of 1990 which I remember well

The odd thing is that in the Met Office Digital Archive for this date there is already a synoptic map presumably based on the readings from that date as below

IMAGE. Members enable at bottom of page

Thi one shows a central pressure of 28.1 inches or slighly less which equates to around 950mb and is quite a lot deeper still than even the new Reading data. The isobar gaps on this map are of 0.2 inches or around 7mb (2-4 times more speced than current maps) so even then a very serious storm was being shown. Note the similarity to the storm of Jan 1990 too

Also posted in the UIA Environment thread (before I saw this post) and best to follow it up there? This tread is intended for media treatment of current weather, not climate issues.

Maybe if she had health problems that are affected by hot weather, she would shut up and take her own words and F off.

The BBC Automated weather forecasts on the site have gone as badly wrong as this evening's TV broadcast forecast. It shows maxima of 8C here every day until next Thursday (apart from Sunday) then suddenly shoots up to 23C next Friday.

That's really, really poor to actually broadcast such rubbish, especially on the flagship national news programme! Laughable, in fact.

At least in the old "Weather 2000" system - the one with symbols - they could make the charts say whatever they wanted. I think they were able to modify the charts in the earlier iterations of the current system, it's frankly unbelievable that they can't do that any more.

I guess Winter is coming then, didn't expect it quite so soon or so short lol🤣 At least summer returns with a vengeance!
It's really not a good show from the BBC.

It's not just the auto forecasts. The main weather after the 10pm news yesterday didn't show any temperatures on the map. Just the temperature colours. Yet the local forecast was fine - that doesn't have the colours.
At least it will be mild!
