Think these are average wind speeds Alan those are the ones Peter (GTW) uses anyway

More aviation nightmares by the looks of things.

Quite a few diversions from Dublin. I've just been watching ZB627 as it aborted its landing at Manchester: http://www.flightradar24.com/MON627

EIN136 Boston - Dublin has been struggling to get in to Dublin for a while, aborted and is trying again now after a big circle.

This doesn't half remind me of Monday into Tuesday... it's not quite as bad but the lights are flickering once again and the rain is lashing down. And once again I was woken up by the wind, but at 2AM rather than 1AM. As on Monday I'm watching the squall line approaching from the west on the radar but unlike Monday it's actually moving steadily rather than stuttering eastwards.

Hmmm - just went to have a shave and no hot water. The boiler's whirring away but doesn't seem to be creating any heat... a quick check with the oven and yup, we've got a gas cut. (Or whatever it's called when your gas supply stops). I can't recall ever having had one of those before!

It's amazing how quickly a house cools down when there's a gale blowing outside.

Just woken up and that wind's got a bit of a kick to it. Seems to be as strong as the last time. Wonder how the rest of the UK are doing?

Update at 7.15 am: It's tipping it down but the wind is now practically dead calm - but the actual squall line is still to my west, a lull before that final bit of gustiness?

Really stormy again, has been all night.  Wind picked up around 2am as thats when the rattling windows woke me.  Lashing rain and the radar shows a blob pulsing up from the Channel which should be here by 8ish in east Kent.

M2 is closed London bound by a serious crash.  SEastern has no trains running, further flooding expected.  Merry Christmas

Edit: Langdon Bay at 62mph gusts for most of the night, was up to 76mph but averaged 71mph gusts for last storm so definately not as windy but if the rain in the channel does clip into Kent then sadly the flooding is going to get even worse

Was extremely windy late yesterday evening power went off again. Suspect there will be a lot of minor damage this morning. Just normal windy now.

Morning

On a very local scale this mornings gusts felt and sounded every bit as bad as Monday night. AS WI correctly eludes the max gusts at nearby Langdon Bay would tell us otherwise.

Indeed, that wind did pack a punch when I woke up at 4 am, the wind's died down but now it's absolutely chucking it down. That is not going to help the flooding issues already affecting parts of Kent not one bit.

Windy here overnight but not as bad as Xmas Eve, max gusts about 10mph lower in the mid 50s.

Not much rain overnight as suspected. The rain forecast was wildly overdone for here.

The lack of rain was down to the weaker activity pre-cold front. Instead of numerous hours of rain we had  ashort heavier spell on the warm front then not much until te CF itself which was a decent squall line around 0400z.

Rainfall to midnight at Winchester was 1.8mm but a further 7.1mm has fallen since

It was certainly a windy night, one worthy of more comment but overshadowed by events three days back

Low pressure has bottomed out here, dead calm so we're in the centre. 946.1hPa is the low, so not a deep as Christmas Eve, though deep enough.

Nice to have a bit of calm for a change

Looks like the exceptionally stormy weather (23 days of > 50mph winds) we have seen is finally returning to something much more "normal". Storms in December is par for the course for us, but not the intensity or frequency we have seen this month. Just hope a calmer end to December runs into Jan, which is normally much more stormy for us than December usually is.
