Much colder next week

[Updated 08:30 21/04/2017]

Fair weather

Friday begins wet weather in central and northern Scotland. Elsewhere it is mostly dry with variable amounts of cloud.

Through the course of the day outbreaks of rain steadily push southwards into northern England, but they become lighter and patchier. Clearer and colder conditions follow on from the north. Southern and central regions remain dry and there will be some bright spells.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in the far north to 16C (61F) in the south and east. See the radar for the latest view.

Tonight there could be a few spots of rain in central and eastern England. In other areas it stays mostly dry, although scattered showers are possible in the north.

Tomorrow looks generally dry, but thicker cloud brings chilly conditions and scattered showers to the eastern half of the UK. Over high ground in the north the showers could fall as snow. On Sunday rain spreads into the north west but elsewhere it stays dry.

Early next week high pressure builds to the west of the UK and a band of rain pushes southwards. This is followed by a cold and showery Arctic air stream. In the north significant snow is possible and even in the south the showers could bring a wintry mix. Buzz investigates.
