Damaging Doris tomorrow

[Updated 07:00 22/02/2017]

Overturned lorry

Wednesday begins with showers in Scotland and a band of rain stretching from northern Wales to East Anglia. Elsewhere it is dry but windy.

Through the day wet weather pushes eastwards across southern and central regions. In the north showers continue and they will fall as snow over high ground. It remains windy in southern regions but in the north west calmer conditions gradually return.

Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in Scotland to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain pushes northeastwards. It will become very windy in the south with severe gales in the south west by the end of the night.

Storm Doris warning

Tomorrow morning Storm Doris continues to deepen and its core tracks eastwards across the north of the UK with the strongest winds on its southern flank. Significant disruption and damage is possible. Computer models suggest wind gusts could reach 85mph in parts of northern Wales, central England and Northern England. In London and the home counties gusts of up to 60mph are possible. Winds ease from the west during the afternoon.

Rain and snow will be additional problems. During the morning a band of heavy rain clears southeastwards. In the north there is a risk of heavy snow and over high ground blizzard like conditions are possible.

Unsettled weather continues through Friday and the weekend. It will be generally mild. Buzz looks ahead to the start of the meteorological spring.
